Invisalign is a type of orthodontic treatment used to gradually straighten and reposition your teeth. Instead of utilizing rubber bands, brackets, and wires like traditional braces, Invisalign uses a series of clear, plastic mouthpieces.
Throughout treatment, you wear your aligners 20-22 hours each day. Over time, they place slight pressure on your teeth and jawbone, transforming your smile.
At Edgewater Dental, Dr. Sajadi usually recommends Invisalign to correct mild or moderate orthodontic issues, including:
Invisalign oral aligners can also close gaps and spaces between your teeth.
Invisalign treatment begins with an in-office consultation at Edgewater Dental. During your appointment, Dr. Sajadi conducts an oral exam, reviews your oral health history, and asks about your goals for treatment. Then he takes digital impressions of your teeth and uploads them to a computer program.
The computer program allows Dr. Sajadi to develop a custom orthodontic treatment plan by mapping out the step-by-step movements of your teeth. Once he finalizes your plan, Dr. Sajadi sends your impressions to a dental laboratory that creates your first set of aligners.
Every 2-3 weeks, you return to Edgewater Dental and change into a new set of aligners.
Orthodontic treatment with Invisalign typically takes 6-12 months. For people with severe orthodontic issues, a treatment period of 18 months may be necessary. Be patient, follow Dr. Sajadi’s instructions carefully, and only take your aligners out when absolutely necessary.
Once you achieve your desired results, you switch the mouthpieces for a retainer. A retainer is a custom oral appliance that prevents your teeth from moving back to their original position.
Care for your Invisalign aligners like you would a mouthguard or dentures. Dr. Sajadi recommends taking your aligners out twice a day and rinsing them in cool tap water.
Before going to bed, clean your aligners with a soft-bristle toothbrush and toothpaste. For more thorough cleanings, ask Dr. Sajadi about the Invisalign Cleaning System.
Invisalign treatment is safe and usually well-tolerated. Each time you change into a new set of aligners, it’s normal to experience some tooth sensitivity and minor discomfort. If necessary, you can take over-the-counter pain medication for relief.
